ENDOCRINOLOGIST – DIABETOLOGIST

Georgios N. Mavropoulos

Dr. Georgios Mavropoulos graduated from the “Elliniki Paideia” educational institution in 2000. That same year, following the Panhellenic examinations, he was admitted to the Athens Medical School with a score of “Excellent” (19,765), graduating in August 2006 with a grade of “Very Good.”

After completing his military service, he worked as a resident in Internal Medicine at the 251 General Air Force Hospital. In 2010, he relocated permanently to Sweden to continue his specialty training. He worked as an Internal Medicine resident at the Karlskrona County Hospital in Blekinge and obtained his board certification in Internal Medicine in 2015. From 2015 to 2018, he underwent specialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Metabolism—initially at the Department of Endocrinology at Lund University Hospital and, from 2017, at the Department of Endocrinology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. He obtained board certification in Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Metabolism in 2018.

Since 2018, he has worked as a staff physician at the same clinic, gaining extensive experience across the entire spectrum of endocrine disorders and diabetes.

Sahlgrenska University Hospital serves as a referral center for all of Scandinavia and is one of the largest hospitals in the world. There, he had the opportunity to work directly with some of the most renowned professors of endocrinology—such as Dr. Gudmundur Johannsson and Dr. Oskar Ragnarsson—and to participate in research projects under the guidance of Dr. Åsa Tivesten.

At the same clinic, he specialized in thyroid disorders and diabetes mellitus. He served as the scientific director of the gender dysphoria center—one of the largest referral centers in Europe, with over 1,000 patients.

He returned to Greece in September 2023, where he maintains a private practice equipped with a modern thyroid ultrasound system (Siemens Acuson Juniper). Concurrently, he works remotely as a Senior Physician in the Endocrinology Department at Helsingborg Hospital, part of Skåne University Hospital in Sweden.
